Here to help older people with modern technology

We are the Silver City Surfers. Welcome to our website.

two people pointing to screen Silver City Surfers is a small local charity which aims to help older people with modern technology for those aged over 55 within the City of Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland. We provide free tutoring and support on all forms of modern technology (e.g. laptops, iPads & other tablets, smartphones, digital cameras, etc) through mentoring and one-to-one support sessions provided by experienced volunteers.

With more and more businesses and organisations going completely digital, the need for a safe, welcoming space to learn digital skills is more than ever and we are here for the people who need us most.

All our sessions are drop in, so no need to book or contact us prior to visiting. Learners can attend as many or as few sessions as they wish. All our sessions are free. We cater for everyone at all levels, from those who are unsure how to switch on a computer to tech savvy grandparents who just want to add to their skills.

The Citadel sessions on a Wednesday and Friday have the best selection of computers, laptops and tablets if you don’t have your own device. For the other sessions, you are best to bring your own if possible.

Silver City Surfers was delighted to find that one of its volunteer tutors, Graham Castle, won a national Digital Hero Award in 2015. View the video, produced by TalkTalk, that reflects our work.
